Meredith Roman Pizzi, MT-BC, is the Founder and Executive Director of Roman Music Therapy Services, a music therapy agency serving children and adults with social, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, physical, and educational needs.
She also co-founded Raising Harmony: Music Therapy for Young Children, an organization that provides training to music therapists, parents and early childhood professionals on the use of music therapy strategies and tools with young children. Utilizing the award-winning Sprouting Melodies program, an exclusive early childhood music program created by and offered through Board Certified Music Therapists, Meredith has been helping to spread Sprouting Melodies® programs around the country and the world. As the creator of Sprouting Melodies® and many other community based programs, Meredith Pizzi is passionate about using music therapy skills and strengths to provide universal and promotive music therapy programs that benefit people of all ages.
Ms. Pizzi earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and completed her music therapy internship in an early intervention and therapeutic integrated preschool setting. Primary areas of her clinical expertise include clinical practice with infants, children and adults in private, educational, and community settings. She has extensive experience working with young children with and without disabilities, individuals of all ages with complex medical and developmental needs, non-verbal learners, individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and persons with Down Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, and other developmental disabilities.
In 2015, Ms. Pizzi was one of 10 interdisciplinary fellows who completed the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Fellowship at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center through the University of Massachusetts Medical School, earning a Certificate in Disability and Health Policy from Suffolk University and the Post-graduate Fellowship Certificate. The following year, she completed a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Suffolk University in Boston, MA.
In addition to her clinical work and overseeing the team at Roman Music Therapy Services, Ms. Pizzi has devoted her career to developing business models for the delivery music therapy services, advocating for music therapy on the systems level, and training and supervising students and professional music therapists in developing clinical competencies and other professional required to be a music therapy business owner. She was one of the first Music Therapy Business Coaches in the country, and started the MTBO Mastermind experience in 2012. She has also created a network for music therapy business owners to facilitate connections of professionals through the American Music Therapy Association and online forums. Regionally and nationally Meredith Pizzi is in demand as a presenter to a wide range of professional and consumer audiences including parents, educators, librarians, music therapists and music therapy students. She is an ongoing service contributor to the music therapy profession through the American Music Therapy Association, (AMTA). Among her most notable contributions is a Podcast discussion available online to all AMTA members about being a Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) and a Small Business Owner and a book published by AMTA in 2015 titled Leading the Way: Music Therapy Businesses of the Future. She has also served as a member of the AMTA Board of Directors, the fiduciary body of the national association and as an Assembly Delegate on the Assembly, the policy making body of the AMTA.
In addition to the honor of being selected as a Post-graduate Fellow for Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver CenterMs. Pizzi has received awards and nominations from numerous organizations including the Make Mine a Million $ Business Competition, Small Business Administration of Massachusetts for Micro Enterprise and the Woman Owned Business of the Year. Sprouting Melodies and the programs at Roman Music Therapy Services have also been recognized in various publications for the Best of the Best Kids’ Classes for Sprouting Melodies®, Best Birthday Parties, and Best Special Needs services for Roman Music Therapy Services in the Boston Parents’ Paper Magazine and Best Kids Classes on the Boston A-List. In 2014, she was recognized with the Presidential Achievement Award for the New England Region of the American Music Therapy Association.
In addition to leading a variety of presentations and programs for professionals, Ms. Pizzi also conducts music-making events throughout the community. In 2017 she started the Project Harmony initiative with the Project Harmony Chorus and community Open Mic/Karaoke nights to create meaningful, integrated music experiences that everyone can enjoy.
