What Is The Service?

Roman Music Therapy Services partners with school districts to bring music therapy into the classroom in a variety of ways. 

Music therapists use a variety of tools, instruments, and music to utilize students’ strengths and allow them to learn, grow, and thrive.

Similar to physical or speech/language therapy, Board Certified Music Therapists partner with the school staff to develop targeted, individualized interventions that support student growth academically, socially, and in the areas of motor or communication skills. 

Through collaboration with teachers, paraprofessionals, and other disciplines of professionals, music therapy creates a uniquely tailored experience to promote meaningful participation in the school environment. 

Our Partnerships Include:

• Individual Music Therapy on an Individualized Education Program (IEP) as a related service 

• Group Music Therapy
  • For inclusive classrooms 
  • For separate or sub-separate classrooms 

• District-wide music therapy program development 
  • For students across schools and districts, including staff professional development, involvement in school events such as open houses, resources for families and staff, sustainable and growth-oriented program development

What Are The Benefits?

• Promote social-emotional learning, identity development, self-regulation, and social skills. 
• Support functional movements, communication, and impulse control. Students who are non-speaking often lean into alternative modes of communication provided within music therapy sessions. 
• Provide opportunity for staff and student classroom connection. 
• Develop peer-to-peer relationships.
• Promote group cooperation and teamwork.
• Enhance and reinforce academic skill development, such as turn taking and following clinician/teacher-directed experiences .
