Dear RMTS Community,
With a heavy heart, and with profound gratitude for the community we have built together, we share that Roman Music Therapy Services will discontinue services as of November 22, 2026. Our office will remain open for a period of time after that date to complete remaining administrative and business matters as we bring 20 years of work to a close.
Significant and unexpected changes in our contracted services this fall, reductions in services over the past year, and ongoing challenges securing funding for new programs have made it unsustainable for Roman Music Therapy Services to continue operating.
This has been an extraordinarily difficult decision. Our team is working closely with clients, families, partners, and staff to navigate this transition with care.
Celebrating 20 Years of Music and Community
As we reflect on the past 20 years, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the clients, families, staff members, music therapy interns and students, music therapists, and community partners who have been part of this journey.
There are so many stories and so many songs that we will carry with us.
From karaoke nights and Project Harmony chorus performances to music therapy sessions in living rooms, classrooms, and hospital rooms, and all the music we made together in our centers in Melrose and Wakefield, it has been a true privilege to share these musical moments.
To the families, clients, and administrators who opened your doors and welcomed our team into your communities: thank you for your trust, your partnership, and the opportunity to make music together.
To the music therapy interns, music therapists, and administrative employees who have made RMTS what it is today: thank you for sharing your talents, energy, creativity, and commitment. Together, you created a workplace culture of learning, growth, and transformation that made so many wonderful things possible.
We are also proud of the role RMTS has played in growing music therapy throughout the Greater Boston region. Over the years, we have created opportunities for music therapists, supported students and interns, provided supervision and professional development, and cultivated a community of learning through our beloved Friday morning Meeting of the Musical Minds, also known as M3.
The Music Doesn’t Stop Here
We recognize that this transition represents a significant change to the routines, relationships, and musical traditions that have been meaningful to so many people.
While this ending brings sadness, we also want to honor everything that has been created together.
The work of RMTS will continue through the many music therapists who carry these experiences into their own practices and communities. It will live on in the growth, connections, and shared musical moments our clients and families carry forward.
Music will continue to be a source of connection, expression, healing, and transformation. We believe deeply in the value of music therapy and in the importance of making music part of the human experience.
As we reflect on the relationships that have shaped us over these two decades, we are reminded of the message from Wicked: we have been changed for good.
Thank you for being part of our community and for making these 20 years so meaningful. It truly would not have been the same without each and every one of you.
With gratitude and care,
The Roman Music Therapy Services Team
